Abstract: In this article, we will analyze legal journalism through a study case of the academic legal periodicals in the Brazilian First Re- public (1889-1930). With a selected sample of journals, we’ll drawn some theoretic-methodological considerations about the work with periodicals, be it as historical source or as an object. On theoretical side, the article reflects on the action of journalism in the transnation- al policy of knowledge, appropriating, reinterpreting and disseminat- ing ideas and concepts that circulated in the hegemonic intellectual field. Regarding methods, this work considers about how to deal with this type of empirical analytical material, and its advantages and differences for a sociology or history of law. Both elements will be grouped around two fronts of observation: the role of enforcing a collective production of knowledge, and the as a space of circulation and appropriation of ideas and factor of ideological convergence. Finally, the article aims to highlight the importance of these sources in empirical research on law, but also of the usefulness of thinking them as a revealing object of the national legal culture. Neste artigo, exploramos um elemento constitutivo da vida intelectual moderna: o periodismo, de um modo amplo, e, designadamente, o perio- dismo especializado no campo do Direito. Intelectuais, desde o século XIX, tendem a se organizar em torno de revistas e jornais, fazendo esses espaços privilegiados de análise não somente como fonte, mas como objeto. Quan- tas centenas de vezes um intelectual latino-americano, ante outros intelec- tuais, pronunciou a frase “publiquemos uma revista!” (SARLO, 1992, p. 9)?
