LEGAL EDUCATION AND HISTORY OF SCHOOLS OF LAW IN PORTUGAL AND BRAZIL ABSTRACT: In the first moment, this issue focuses the legal education in Portugal and its influence in the legal education in Brazil since the creation of Schools of Law in Olinda (later transferred to Recife) and São Paulo, in 1827. In this article we seek to deepen studies on the extent on legal culture of the University of Coimbra (and its reform in the late eighteenth century) in the Brazilian legal education. We take into account, on the one hand, those jurists also formed in the me- tropolis - the so-called “generation of 1790” - and who administered the Brazilian Imperial State post-emancipation from Portugal (1822). On the other hand, we take the legal culture of Coimbra through the process of organizing the legal courses in Brazil. We will point out some possible interpretations about cultural continuities that crossed the Atlantic (from Portugal to Brazil) and laid deep roots in Brazilian legal culture. In a second moment, the issue approaches the van- guard of the jurist and magistrate Professor Felippe Augusto de Mi- randa Rosa (01/12/1920 - 12/03/2009) regarding the sociology of law and the interdisciplinary paradigm in studies on Law and Society. Keywords: legal education; Law schools; Coimbra; Recife; São Paulo; Fellipe Augusto de Miranda Rosa; sociology of law; interdis- ciplinary paradigm.
